'Pan (...) moved between rough beasts, glades, and rocks: he was a god of flesh and bones, of the here-and-now. He had horns, cloven hooves, and no modesty at all.'
Read the whole essay for free. Io Pan!
Pan is not very whimsical. It is a ‘what would it be like if ancient graeco-roman mythology returned to an ultra-realistic modern Rome?’ kind of book. So, not much whimsy there. Plenty of Lost Children though. And they do fly.
That would be 2008, but hey. It’s publication day. I’m allowed mistakes & cake.
Pan is out in English today. It was published for the first time in Italy in 2006, before the social media deluge, and it became a word-of-mouth success. This is a magnificent translation by @sophiamcdougall.bsky.social. Tell them he's coming back.

Clive Barker was a key inspiration for Pan. Go read Weaveworld. Go read The Great and Secret Show. Go read Imajica, and Galilee.. please, go read Clive Barker's books. And also Pan.
A Substack post on the god Pan, the price of safety, and the necessity of freedom...

Pan's labyrinth, sort of
Folks, do read @bleakhousing.bsky.social ‘s The Ship of Death. It’s a blast. I’m not sure I’ll ever play Arkham Horror ever again, though
Kyle Winkler's The Ship of Death is the horror book gamers never asked for, but always needed. It's great and you guys should read it.
I should probably post about Pan, but with Autumn in full swing, I'd rather point out how much I miss watermelon.
I love fireworks, jewels, and sweets, for the same reason: they are all entirely useless. Being nice is their only point. Creating useless-but-nice stuff is a great thing we humans do.
Mirror, mirror, don't patronise me. I know.
The American war guy is a grotesque example of what happens when you don’t outgrow your GI Joe era at ten years old.
Pan - a starred review. Thank you!
A spoiler- free look at the first half of Pan. Written by yours truly, translated by @sophiamcdougall.bsky.social , edited by @leeharris.net . Out next week for @torbooks.bsky.social!
