Billionaires don’t win be used they have good plans. They win because they have enough money* to execute stupid plans at scale. *access to cheap credit from unrealized stock gains
I think Gillis has his very narrow and limited strengths as a comedian, even if it’s clear that he’s been coasting for the last year+. But I will never for the life of me understand what convinced SNL to hire him as a featured cast member for even the brief time they did.
Trump demands all Americans chip in $20 to send to Russia
Keep an eye on Trump and his conspirators, for sure, because they are dangerous and their motivations make clear things that are being intentionally mystified, but the benefactors, controllers, and larger capitalist incentives are the thing. He's a buffoonish, corrupt middle manager, at best.
They're also parroting shareholders. MOST of the seeming "out of touchness" now is actually that the people selling stuff have adjusted to mainly selling the idea of their companies to investors rather than selling their company's products to customers.
Pete Hegseth carefully weighing whether livestreamed execution will be sponsored by FanDuel or Nashville Fried Chicken Doritos
Oh man, absolutely agreed. Also, haven't watched The Dead Zone in a minute, but gonna put the VHS on in the background while I work right now.
I’m concerned this goober has never once read his kid a book, because it’s the goddamn best and how could you ever want to stop.
Sam Altman said people are just gonna have to die in order to implement AI. In the very same week, Anthropic claimed it’s a human rights violation to be mean to the computer. These people need to be held accountable. They think lines of code are a person with rights but living people are debris.
1000%. He craves structure and hierarchy, and any justification to pass judgement on others. It also helps that Thiel has been a loony toons fake Catholic for years now, so the choice was largely made for Vance.
Anyway, Vance‘s motivations are only slightly more psychologically complex than Trump’s. And his are laughably simple.
Vance is also fueled by a genuine disgust for the small town “hillbillies“ that failed him as a kid. Almost as much as he hates liberals and “ivy league elites” who didn’t embrace him at Yale (mostly because he was already a bitter weirdo).
If he wants to say socialism is immigrants and made-up claims of trans athletes, he not only faces no consequence, but he’s rewarded. Same with lying on a debate stage, or claiming immigrants are eating pets. He gets to dictate terms now, and everyone else has to take it.
Vance is extremely easy to understand. He was legitimately neglected as a child, and still carries that fear of being vulnerable. The second he could hitch his wagon to a ruthless billionaire (Thiel) he did so, and ever since has reveled in the control he now exerts over his surroundings.
One time I wrote an Aaron Sorkin sketch where the Republicans were cartoonishly-exaggerated demagogues and it still wasn’t as on the nose as this.
I truly think Vance believes “I had a hard childhood, so then I sold my soul to a maniacal billionaire so that I’m NEVER vulnerable again” is the height of bravery, and anyone unwilling to do the same is a coward.
