And there we have it folks. Prices will continue to rise We need help to bring down our use of oil and gas. And there’s less available to do that because of what FF/FG thought might get them a couple of votes down the line. Special mention here for Labour who voted with them on this.

There is no dedicated Nature Restoration fund in the budget for 2027

Thanks to @thenewshughes.bsky.social for asking @rodericogorman.bsky.social to write this piece for the Daily Mail

Budget 2027 does nothing to allow people to bring down the amount of oil and gas they use.

Jack Chambers has increased SEAI funding by 2% when grant requests have increased by 50%.

There is nothing in the budget that will help people to bring down their use of fuel. Carbon tax reductions will be eaten up by higher oil and gas prices Then what? There’ll be less €s available to allow people to take measures to lower their bills permanently

Labour just voted in favour of the carbon tax reduction. That might explain our reluctance to join your party šŸ˜•

Budget Day in Ireland. Seems like greyhound racing did well: sadly can't say the same for climate action.

In last years budget, SEAI was allocated €640 million to support home retrofit. Min Chambers has just announced that SEAI will get €654.5 million in 2027 for retrofit. A €14.5 million increase. A 2% increase.

Having written off 4 years of carbon tax revenue (and no indication yet how that hole will be filled) the Tanaiste spends a section of his speech talking about how important energy transition is to his Government. But what the the measures he is actually announcing?

That's it! 3 reviews, one extension of an existing relief, one (welcome) increase in an allowance. This tinkering around the edges does not show a Government serious about transitioning away from fossil fuels and making renewable energy easily available for all households across the country.

Ireland imports 80% of its wheat. Not great food security.

Concentration on livestock farming elbowed Irish wheat out. Imported wheat and flour add considerably to the cost of living crisis. But new crop science opens the door to Irish grown wheat.

✊ Join the Greens at the ā€˜Fund Our Future’ protest from 12:30pm on Thursday at the Garden of Remembrance. Students Unions, oppositionĀ parties, and third-level students will be gathering to say Budget 2027 must support students and younger people.

@greenparty.ieSep 29, 2026, 12:19 PM

Students and their families are feeling the rising cost of living more than most. The Green Party believes that Budget27 should deliver a sustainable funding model for third level institutions and relief to students by raising the family income threshold from €65k to €120k for free fees
