Chinese researchers develop plasma metabolite model of #aging

www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

— laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS)
— identified 56 representative age-associated metabolites
— accelerated aging by model associates with chronic disease, mortality

Researchers @harvard.edu suspect they found #longevity gene?

wyss.harvard.edu/news/reversi...

— typical cell reprogramming via de-differentiation risks cancer
— cell age of donor correlates with gene expression profile
— cell age reduced via up-regulation of SRSF1 splicing factor

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the tumor microenvironment

— transport functional cargo, including RNA, proteins, lipids— mediate cellular communication
— biomarker of #tumor drug resistance

Can EVs be engineered to reverse drug resistance via bioactive cargo?

medicine.nus.edu.sg/news/earlier...

— meta-analysis of 29 studies involving 550,550 women
— each 1y earlier age at menopause associates with about one month of greater DNA methylation aging

Great Qs I'm new to the C15 FA research. I'll keep an eye on it as I begin reading more about it Likely C15 FA is promiscuous binder to many metabolic targets/pathways, so it's effects could manifest broadly and in non-linear dose-dependent manner eg. agonism/antagonism switching across doses

Exercise is a natural #senolytic!

bioengineer.org/senolytic-dr...

Mouse study spanning entire second half of life

— aerobic exercise worked as well as drugs to suppress cell senescence in heart
— both interventions preserved heart function

I highly recommend regular strength + endurance training

Btw I consider transposable elements to be a cause of age-related #genome instability for us humans!

Our nuclei employ piwi-RNA and Dicer RNAse along with nightly re-methylation to suppress transposable elements

The immortal freshwater hydra happen to have exceptional piwi-RNA/Dicer machinery 🧬

Big dogs, little dogs, #aging, #epigenome & #transposons

www.nature.com/articles/d41...

— Study of ~900 dogs from ~120 breeds
— Big dogs die earlier, accumulate epigenetic changes faster
— gene promoters gain methylation
— introns & transposons lose methylation (activate)

You don't have to insist on it I do though, since I live in the US where science is under attack Research doctors need to stick up for each other and promote our expertise to fight against the ignorance in US politics that is causing misery, morbidity and mortality to millions of Americans 🧪

Yeah I've heard this one before It really makes me laugh How would people on the plane possibly know you were a research doctor? "Is there a doctor on the plane? We have an emergency!" "Is it a medical emergency or a research emergency? I'm a research doctor if someone has a science question"

Yes, I've met many MD PhDs They seem to have a few common traits Highly motivated & intelligent, but high strung & stressed out

@ewingt-phd.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 7:46 PM

Yes I agree general public familiar with medical doctors with MD suffix But we're teachers! We need to *teach* the general public that research doctors have PhD suffix, just like psychologists Btw, many medical doctors too busy to keep up with latest medical research & need OUR help to keep up!
