And second, this tangent from my friend Nancy's Cornish Bearings (www.cornishbearings.com), which is part of a fascinating piece about hedgehogs:

By the time I figured all this out, I'd started to soften a bit and worry about the little creature who had since waddled over into my neighbor Paula's garden. Should I warn Paula? Should I call the hedgehog rescue professional and let them handle it? Unfortunately, we had a London train to catch, so I ended up doing Sweet Fanny Adams (by which the British mean nothing. Oddly, the term, which seems innocuous enough, has a grisly origin story. In 1867, eight-year-old Fanny Adams was brutally killed and dismembered by a solicitor's clerk in Alton, England. The story was widely known, and in customary dark humor, sailors in the British Royal Navy took to referring to their lousy meat rations as Sweet Fanny Adams. Later it came to mean nothing at all; coincidentally, Fanny Adams has the same initials as fuck all, which has the same meaning. But I digress.)

What I've always loved about the internet are people sharing their quirky passions and nerdy knowledge. Two examples from newsletters that hit my inbox in the past few days:

First, this tidbit from @vanessa-armstrong.com's Tube Talk: (www.tubetalk.media/subscribe?re...):

One evening that month, 24-year-old Annie Eva Fay found herself in the house of Sir William Crookes, her hands clasping a galvanometer, a device that would ostensibly prove she was, in fact, a real medium. If she took her hands off its two handles, the electric circuit running through the apparatus would break, and the observers huddled around the apparatus in the adjoining room would
see.
Fay fooled them that night, calling forth a ghostly hand that wound up a music box, rung a bell, and carried a violin across the room while the circuit remained intact. Crookes announced he had scientifically proven Fay had supernatural abilities, and she carried his claim as a badge of legitimacy for the remaining 40 years of her career.
Fay achieved this in part by taking advantage of how society dismissed and underestimated women. Almost every man who described Fay, for example, emphasized how they found her physically attractive, and (perhaps because of this viewed her as a passive participant in her sĂŠances rather than the true driving force behind them.

The Great British Baking Show's Audience Choice Week (collection 14, series 17, episode 3) handed over all three challenges to viewers. Like on Survivor, that wasn't the best idea. #GreatBritishBakingShow #Baking

Aw, thanks! I admit that RAGE ANDY showed up first, but I took a moment and then came up with this.

Right now there's just one comment and it's positive! www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=...

😂 I did not! That's amazing.

All I was doing was looking for a photo on The Great British Bake-Off's Facebook page, and then an opportunity for fun presented itself!

He's in a thrupple. That made for great family conversation.

Denise Cardamone Yeah, it's tough having to explain to your kids that you puke when you see people who are in love and different from you.
Hope you didn't spew chunks all over your kids!Dora Weir
Denise Cardamone yup, that is why this is a first year we are not watching as a family. I do not want to have conversations that are too much for my littles when what they love is baking and watching other people bake.

Andy Dehnart
Dora Weir Definitely too much for kids to handle that their parents are bigots. Good luck having that conversation when they're older!

It's been 40 years since Double Dare came to Nickelodeon—and since I fell in love with reality TV challenges. Plus: read my profile of Marc Summers. #DoubleDare #Nickelodeon

ICYMI: Survivor 51 episode 4 was a wild ride of hilarity, stupidity, and surprises—an accidental mutiny!!—and just a freakin' great episode. My takes and takeaways are inside! #Survivor #Survivor51

Here are my thoughts about this drag of a Traitors New Blood episode, which I hope are more entertaining than big chunks of the episode itself!

@andydehnart.comOct 9, 2026, 1:56 AM

And just bad pacing on the way to the cliffhangers—it's not even predictable like Project Runway's (obnoxious) cliffhangers.

@andydehnart.comOct 9, 2026, 1:31 AM

And we appreciate them!

@andydehnart.comOct 9, 2026, 1:27 AM

What a rough Traitors: New Blood episode that was. We waited two weeks for maybe 10 minutes of content in an hour of TV? And there's a run-by fruiting and we don't even know who was hit?!
