Tell us what you think of our new Discussions feature and what you want to see from it next
at a time where social media platforms encourage more performative and one-sided sharing than ever, we're excited to be launching features for more generative, participatory, and fun conversations. looking forward to everyone's feedback and to seeing what Discussions come 💬💜
And on the night of the elections, we're also planning to partner with folks like @blackskyweb.xyz to make it so you can personalize your feed within the appview so you don't even have to jump off-site to follow the news.
Hey James! Just want to confirm you don’t see this little graph icon when you go to the post composer?
how do we feel about this season of Ted Lasso
if you're on #blacksky or a @blackskyweb.xyz product on ACORN (which @medsky.network is!):
you have the special opportunity to deprive racist moneygrubbers from oxygen by reporting them!
@moderation.blacksky.app will label their post and stop it from showing up on others' feeds too 🥰
REPORT!
hey it’s a gay bar story about who to actually be mad at
@blackskyweb.xyz's account onboarding for new accounts is so nice.
I missed the pictures but the very first slide was on the community labeler and guidlines. They do a great job highlighting other apps on the Atmosphere and that their account works everywhere, default For You feed as well
hot take: software people are going to regret not unionizing when we could
Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.
patriarchal ideology runs so deep in our culture that it'd be a mistake to make this just a conversation about 'bad men'. it's about the domination and denial of bodily autonomy that structure daily life (also via transphobia, genocide, carcerality, labor exploitation, etc) and needs to end.
we're reproducing mini corporations in every one of us via a culture that does not want us to see each other as full human beings with agency but instead see us as capital sees us - as bodies to be optimized, exploited, conquered.
at a societal level we have so deeply normalized hegemonic masculinity. the aspirations to be "rational" and unfeeling. to be uncompromising. to give our bodies/ creativity to work above all else. to be 'autonomous', which in practice looks/feels like isolation and individualism.
for example, it’s easy to isolate the issue to fraternities as hubs of entitled, reckless masculinity - but what about tech companies? finance firms? even, leftist organizing spaces? patriarchal logic and power challenge bodily autonomy across all of these spaces - and abuse is prevalent.
re; the discourse around Cornell 7 - it would be nice if instances like this opened space for broader discussions about patriarchy and violation of bodily autonomy at a systemic level. beyond "educate your sons", "believe women" - how patriarchal violence is so nuanced and takes many forms.
