Students made their first minicomics in my intro making course - mostly standard format but this student, a first time maker(!), did something so off the charts I’m still reeling from it! & he made like 12 of them for his classmates! A paper engineering feat of flipbookery as well as killer drawing!

Cowboys again. This time one of our boys has lost his boots. Standing in a field of long grass the cowboy points towards the ground and shouts back to his colleague, ā€œLil bone people got muh boots.ā€ This makes no sense to the other cowboy who sits atop his horse away from the action. He responds, ā€œLil wut?ā€ Sure enough in the foreground we see a squad of little bone people scampering through the grass with the stolen cowboy boots. They’re thrilled. How the bone people got the boots off the cowboy is unclear.

Artist’s note: I tend to draw drawings from the same perspective (straight on) most of the time. This idea came about when I was goofin around trying to draw a character from a lower angle. I like that the story unfolds with the foreground, mid-ground, and background all working together. There’s a draft of this one included in the Spooky Pants book. Coming out next week!

we have an idea for communities in the app that we're calling "spaces" — places where people can gather around shared interests or social groups. here's a peek at some early prototypes. these are explorations, not polished or final. looking for feedback, esp from community builders šŸ‘€

Aalex benzer@alexbenzer.comSep 30, 2026, 7:53 PM

the bsky team is working on various ideas for creating smaller social spaces in the app. which use case is most interesting to you? 1. posting into "topics" that organize public posts 2. posting into "communities" or "groups" that can be public or private 3. posting directly to your followers only

@lightlyspicy.bsky.social asks, "Best way to care for young apple trees?"

OOrchard Notes@orchardnotes.comSep 9, 2026, 6:26 PM

A few starters: keep them watered in dry weather. Protect them against any local predators (deer, rabbits, voles, toddlers etc.) and remove any fruit in the first year or two to help them establish stronger root systems.

OOrchard Notes@orchardnotes.comSep 9, 2026, 6:13 PM

I grew a 'Howgate Wonder' apple last year that was 29oz in weight. Wouldn't even need the enlarging ray for that one... orchardnotes.com/2025/12/02/g...

@bestpaulever.bsky.social asks, "Why aren't there any blue apples?"

KKwiaht@kwiaht.orgSep 9, 2026, 6:04 PM

There are some red apples that are nearly blue. Blue Pearmain, Arkansas Black, and Robert's Crab for example. (the real answer is pigments and the limited variety that apples make)

Watercolor of a nearly purple striped red apple. It is dark red with blue-purple stripes. It is shown once whole and once cut stem to blossom-end).Watercolor of a deep red apple, so red it is nearly purple. It is shiny and round. It is shown twice, once whole and once cut stem to blossom end. The core line is quite wide and the tube at the blossom end is long with the core lines meeting it at the calyx.

@brimcrob.bsky.social asks, "What is the best apple to make cider?"

BBarry M@barmas.bsky.socialSep 9, 2026, 6:03 PM

That’s completely a matter of taste, & geography. West England, you’ll get more bittersweets with decent loads of tannin ā€œcider applesā€, like Dabinett. Central Europe they tend to be more acid-led. The great thing is, you can find apples to suit all tastes once fermented, there’s no single answer.
