I'll have a livestream update on "hot Santa Ana" wind event & associate fire weather threat across parts of California at 4pm PT on Thu, Oct 15. I'll discuss where recent rains have--and have not--meaningfully mitigated risk, and assess any active fires.

Update: There is a rapidly emerging fire weather threat in parts of SoCal Thu-Fri in places that have not seen significant recent precip (esp. western LA metro). A warm Santa Ana event will bring strong, gusty winds even to lower elevs, but vegetation moisture highly variable.

Fire weather risk map from NWS Los Angeles depicting high (level 3 of 4) risk specifically across western LA metro on Thursday.

In case you missed it live earlier, my "big October El Niño update" was recorded and is now available. This was a bit of a marathon session, but I covered a lot of ground and answered quite a few excellent viewer questions submitted via live chat! Check it out.
