Thanks for the write up @danny.is
Will try to address better book matching on my side and things should not always be marked as owned
This is a fantastic example of why open data is so important!
I just moved my books collection from Goodreads to @bookhive.buzz and wrote a bit about how I cleaned up the data from Goodreads and pulled in some Audible stuff too.
Unfortunately probably not for a while. I’m still needing to gather more books before the search ranking would be of any use. The more people use it the better it should get though!
We are legit, in the best place possible!
I just learned Goodreads is owned by Amazon. Womp.
All the more reason to use @bookhive.buzz or @popfeed.social
I’m confused binary based matching is for KOSync, which is for syncing across devices not OPDS (which is for downloading books). What issues are you seeing specifically? Sending file metadata (an option in KOReader) should be turned on to better match to a book in BookHive but it’s not guaranteed
There are things like Open Library but there dataset is incomplete for some common books
Also, I’ve been using Readest, it’s really well done and very actively made by the former KOReader maintainer. Can highly recommend it!
I’ve not seen this before. I’m unsure what it could be. I wrote the server against the spec so it should work 🤷♂️ If you could get a more specific error message that would be helpful.
Sourced from Goodreads. I don’t want to take on the moderation of adding new books. I’m working on a new community book lexicon that should help: nick-the-sick.pckt.blog/road-to-a-bo...
Don't worry guys, Part 2 is here: Houston, we've got a book & review lexicon! I don't think it is in it's final shape just yet, but I believe it to be a strong proposal, and well justified if I may say so, myself 😌
I've been thinking a lot about how to define a shared book lexicon for the Lexicon Community Working Group: discourse.atmosphere.community/t/in-which-a... But, instead wrote a treatise against ISBNs. I hope I can link to it whenever someone asks why their import didn't work on @bookhive.buzz 😝
Appreciate it, no worries, I’m clearly not attached to the code. This project is more of a statement and idea than anything.
Sorry about your experience with my code. I'll do better. It's not to my standards either, but its hard justifying the amount of time that I spend on this as is. But that's just an excuse. Thanks for contributing!
Thanks to @noahbogart.com, we now have importing from @hardcover.app into @bookhive.buzz
Gave my website a neat sunday afternoon makeover and added a /books section powered by my @bookhive.buzz records - interop ftw
Very nice!
In the KOReader settings in Readest, you'll need to check "Send document metadata" for it to send the title and author of the book. This is for privacy reasons since the default KOSync server is public with open registration

BookHive now syncs with your e-reader. Upload your ebooks, browse them from KOReader, Crosspoint, or Readest, via OPDS, and your reading progress syncs back into BookHive.
