Please join us today at 5PST/8EST for a conversation with New York Times reporter @natashanyt.bsky.social, whose new book, CODING KIDS, tells the shocking story of how Big Tech came to influence how, what, and increasingly *whether* our kids learn. us06web.zoom.us/meeting/regi...

Boston-area folks: if you're interested in tech and education, come check out this talk on Oct 21 by my sister, the amazing @natashanyt.bsky.social, NYT reporter, discussing her new book Coding Kids: www.harvard.com/event/natash...

@natashanyt.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 12:19 PM

"Singer’s central point is not simply that the corporate co-opting of the classroom is a bad thing in and of itself, but that it has created a warped and biased picture of the industry. What happens when much of curriculum is written by the industry itself?"

This review of "Coding Kids" by the great Curmudgucator @palan57.bsky.social made my day!

Really looking forward to the Civics of Tech Book Club discussion at 8pm tonight featuring my new book, Coding Kids! ... expecting it to be 🔥🔥🔥

Amazing to read this as I'm reading @natashanyt.bsky.social's new book, Coding Kids. All the strategies are here: stroking educator egos, using celebrities, making grants, and more.

Have to love this superintendent contracting with OpenAI and Salesforce first, developing an AI policy later.

In a Google AI teacher training session today, Gemini turned my new book, "Coding Kids," into a four-slide story for students. TLDR: Big Tech captures the classroom. But a "brave teacher" saves the day, helping kids become "true critical thinkers."

Thanks @newyorker.com !

“Coding Kids is an even-tempered yet withering narrative of how the nation’s public schools came under the spell of private corporations."

OpenAI + MSFT workers worried that training AI on millions of newspaper articles amounted to "the largest theft of labor in human history," my NYT colleagues report.

Wondering how unionized teachers feel about this ..

Is it more important for schools to train children to use chatbots -- or to equip kids to examine how A.I. is steering us?

We delve into the global A.I. education/skilling debate in today's @nytimes.com's The World newsletter:

nytimes.comBack to School, Now With A.I.This year is shaping up to be a global experiment in education: Can students embrace tech innovation without losing critical thinking skills?

I’ve been devouring my copy of @natashanyt.bsky.social’s Coding Kids, out today. However bad you think the tech takeover of public schools is, it’s been going on longer and has penetrated more deeply than you can likely imagine. Get your copy here 👇🏻

In 1979, @nader.org documented how companies were flooding schools with corporate-sponsored learning materials. My new book, "Coding Kids," traces corporate influence in classrooms from then to now. If you or someone you know is interested in these issues, please pre-order the book today!

I worked in #edtech, as an exec & industry consultant, for nearly 30 years. What @natashanyt.bsky.social describes — accurately & fairly, IMHO — shows how much education technology has changed since around 2010 when iPads as cheap devices plus widespread broadband began to make edtech ubiquitous.
