Should be ice cold, but I have a feeling for some authors it's at least warm.

This latest story of mine is set in a small upstate NY diner in the dead of winter, and stars Carl the Trucker, who some readers may recall from my Mixtape 1986 story "One of Those Nice Guys"

Check it out! My newest story, "ETERNAL RETURN" is out in Episode 766 of Tales to Terrify! Follow well-meaning trucker Carl (who appeared in a story in my debut collection) as he's trapped in a time loop with the murderous Gauzehead and an innocent diner waitress talestoterrify.com

But these stories, as satisfying as they might be to the author and the reader in the short term, don't really stand as great works of fiction. I don't write stories in that vein anymore, nor seek them out. I prefer the Ballingrud approach, where even the vilest people have interiority. 2/2

I often think of this quote from Aristotle's Poetics w/r/t a lot of horror fiction that centers on a triumphal payback where supernatural forces exact revenge on often 1-dimensional villains standing in for real life people. I've written these stories in the past, I understand the appeal. 1/2

I like how they say "the dark side of far-right fame" as if it weren't all dark. There is literally no "light side" to being part of this movement in any capacity.

Writer friends, what do you consider the cutoff point between short story and novelette? I feel like 8,000 is pretty common, but to me 10,000 feels more correct.

My newest story is out with BCS, my ninth time in that publication! "Sous Lumiere Aigre" is a dark fairy tale about a grumpy traveling merchant who sells junk and becomes a (*very*) reluctant child guardian
