big props to @progressivemass.bsky.social for the ballot question infographic, I shared it with the friends who came to a Postcards for Voters party with me today (normally we are fine on our own but nine questions calls for a cheat sheet)

I wish Massachusetts had a functioning legislature, but we don't, so vote like this instead.

MA folks, rest up before voting. This will be a workout.

MA has a historic number of ballot questions. Here's a handy guide for the 9 statewide ballot questions this year.

✅VOTE YES ON 1 to expand the public records law to cover the Governor and the Legislature. We’re the only state in the country that doesn’t do that already. Let the sunlight in.

✅VOTE YES ON 2 to enable public defenders to collectively bargain. Every worker deserves to have a union, and public defenders, who are often overworked and underpaid, should be no exception.

❌VOTE NO ON 3 to prevent private equity billionaires from rigging our election system in their favor. Top-two primaries empower corporate PACs and self-funders, disadvantage grassroots candidates, and turn MAGA voters into election kingmakers.

✅VOTE YES ON 4 to enable voters to register to vote or update their registration on Election Day. No eligible voter should be turned away due to a clerical error, and this reform is one of the most proven ways to increase voter turnout.

❌VOTE NO ON 5 to protect our state’s ability to invest in health care, transportation, and public education. The rich would get millions in tax rebates, while the rest of us suffer from underfunded public services.

⚪VOTE how you want on 6. Question 6 fell shy of our endorsement threshold: our members valued land and water conservation, but were worried about the dedication of existing funds as opposed to new ones.

✅VOTE YES on 7 to enable more starter homes across the Commonwealth. We have a housing crisis, and large lot size requirements mean fewer homes are able to be built.

❌VOTE NO on 8 to protect our state’s cannabis laws. We said NO to the war on drugs back in 2016, and we shouldn’t turn back time and destroy local economies.

✅VOTE YES ON 9 to protect our state’s landmark gun safety law, which cracked down on ghost guns, banned machine gun conversion devices, and strengthened gun violence data collection.

The other 8 BQs were put on the ballot by the people who want you to vote yes; Q9 was put on the ballot by the people who want you to vote no. Vote YES to protect MA’s community-informed, data-backed 2024 gun safety law, our state’s policy leadership, and nationwide momentum for gun safety.

Powerful group of public education champions at the State House urging Healey to just say no to Trump’s voucher scheme

Having many good candidates should be a blessing; Question 3 ("jungle primaries") would make it a curse. But the problem isn’t just a lockout effect: it’s also all the perverse, undemocratic incentives that fear of such a lockout creates — and how they all reinforce the role of money. Vote NO on 3.

"There is no question our elections are in need of reform and the stated goals of Q3 are laudable. However, there is limited evidence that top two-primaries will achieve these goals and a risk they will cause new problems and exacerbate existing ones."

for Q3: • private equity and venture capital execs • Jake Auchincloss and Seth Moulton, the two worst MA representatives • Charlie Baker against Q3: • Progressive Mass • Ayanna Pressley • Ed Markey as I've said before, even if I knew nothing else but who's on which side, that'd be enough. No on 3!

Congresswoman @ayannapressley.bsky.social is proud to join our broad coalition to oppose this harmful ballot question and keep power in the hands of the people.

Vote No on 3.

We can't let private equity & dark money groups rig [our] primaries to shut out working class candidates, candidates of color, and first-time candidates.
