📺 I'm really glad to see so much positive press around our motion supporting trans and non-binary people's rights in Oxford. This was spotted by @apowelllaw.bsky.social's nan and mum all the way down in Dorset tonight! Much more work to be done, but we will get there. 🏳️⚧️ www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...
Great to teach the first class on my new module: Law in the Culture Wars this week! Really looking forward to discussing the impact of so called 'culture wars' on legal institutions and frameworks with students over the next 10 weeks.
And, since I know Zack sometimes reads my posts, I want to be really clear: this isn't an attack. But your impulse to seek affirmation is going to undo everything. You need to get real. Irrespective of the merits or the motion, the party is at the eye of the storm and you are its leader. Lead.
Also liking sub tweets about journalists is giving them another thing to report on. Stop it now. The leadership needs to get serious about the situation at hand or consider their position.
Being asked if Israel has a right to exist is an entirely predictable outcome of Zionism is Racism being passed and both Zack and the press office should be prepared. This is going to be every interview for the next 6 months. It is simply not tenable to try and ignore or wait out the question.
Congrats to all for a great campaign. So sorry it wasn’t enough this time, but tripling our vote share was huge. On Zack’s next steps - his leadership has led to huge party successes. I hope he can now bring same leadership to help resolve huge issues we face & transform our internal structures too
“If you don’t like public executions just don’t watch it” says the crowd trying to ban drag shows and books
While focused on this by-election, he has shown lapses of judgment and leadership. But we also need to be balanced and recognise that we wouldn't even be in a position to compete without the transformations the party has seen under his leadership.
On the one hand, 33% in a Westminster by-election was unthinkable 2 years ago. We must not lose sight of that. On the other hand, it's disappointing to have stood our leader and thrown so much resource at things and to fall that far short. The next few weeks, and how Zack responds, is crucial.
In other words, a 10 percent contraction in one of Britain’s most successful exports. If it were steel or fish or other infinitely less profitable sectors, people would be having a meltdown.
My comment to BBC Oxfordshire on Monday's motion about the EHRC Code of Practice and Trans Rights: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Of course my first teaching day of the academic year is the first properly cold day we have had in months 😭
Just trying to look up my teaching room ahead of my 9 am this morning. Not too hard you'd think. After all, it's 2026, British railways would never have dial up speed internet that needs to load an image line by line...
I won't pretend this isn't a very difficult moment, but so proud of Greens who continue to stand up for trans rights in councils across the UK. This time it was our turn in Oxford! Amazing work by @maxmorris.bsky.social who drafted and proposed the motion
Green councillor Max Morris proposed the motion and described "unacceptable levels of abuse on social media" for representatives who had previously put forward a proposal... They said that experience is "something that many of us are all too familiar with" www.thisisoxfordshire.co.uk/news/2661155...
My speech in support of our motion on the EHRC Code of Practice and Trans rights. Proud that Oxford City Council supported our call for new legislation to protect trans rights and to maximise trans inclusion until that is achieved.

To Jewish members of the Green Party: Assurances, from the motion proposers, that they had no intention for Jewish members to feel targeted for their beliefs or associations have been clear. And if anyone else does try to use it in this way, I will be there for you with my solidarity and support.
I am deeply saddened that the "Zionism is Racism" motion has passed.
