everyone is speaking
a little louder
to be heard

I nod
at what may
have been a question

someone leans closer
bringing the whole room
with them

through the open door
a narrow strip
of sunlit grass

my mind
has gone there

the rest of me
is still being polite

We are sanctioning the ICC because we are a country that commits war crimes. We are buying diesel from Russia to fund Putin’s war machine because we are a country that likes *other* countries that commit war crimes.
