I’ve edited many kinds of prose but I’ve never edited poetry - and I’ve always been curious about how editors approach poems. @howardlovy.bsky.social & @annadavidson.bsky.social discuss at @indieauthoralli.bsky.social selfpublishingadvice.org/podcast-poet... #writingcommunity #skywriters
The institutionally antisemitic Green Party in the UK declared "Zionism is Racism," a lie first invented in the Soviet Union. Can somebody tell me where the USSR is now? The Jewish people outlast all our enemies.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict would not exist were it not for ... (checks notes) ... Hebrew punctuation marks.
Since October 7, Jewish and Israeli writers have faced a wave of hostility in the literary world. Is this the new reality for Jewish literature? At 1 p.m. Eastern today, I'll talk about it with William Kolbrener, publisher of Writing on the Wall. Register here.

A reminder that Canary Publishing is still accepting submissions. I'm blown away by the number and quality of the manuscripts I've received so far, but keep them coming! We exist to amplify Jewish voices that have been marginalized over the past three years. www.canarypublishing.org/submissions
My pal Gordon barks at the moon.
When you hire an editor for your book, what do you get for your money? How do editors set their rates? How do you choose the right editor? Is it just as good to use AI? I'm talking to @howardlovy.bsky.social at @indieauthoralli.bsky.social selfpublishingadvice.org/podcast-what... #writinglife
Apparently, I'm at the age of confusion when it comes to tech. I blurred my background on Zoom, but I also accidentally set it to remove all my wrinkles. So, if you've seen my webinars and panel discussions, my face is not really that smooth! I'm not embarrassed by my age.
Tune in Tuesday, September 29, at 1 p.m. Eastern, when William Kolbrener and I will discuss whether we need a new generation of Jewish and Israeli publishers in light of our marginalization by the literary community. It's hosted by @momentmagazine.bsky.social. momentmag.com/do-we-need-a...
Today, the youngest of my four children, Samuel, turns 21 years old. Here's how we did selfies in the flip-phone era. It might also explain how I lost my hair.
My friends at @momentmagazine.bsky.social invite writers to submit their short stories for the magazine's annual short fiction contest. This is a unique opportunity to share your voice and explore themes of Jewish culture, history, and identity. More info here. momentmag.com/karma-fictio...
I'm happily reading through the tidal wave of manuscript submissions I've received for Canary Publishing. It's hard to believe that mainstream agents and publishers are telling these talented writers that nobody is interested in their stories. I am, and I suspect a great many readers are, too.
Here's a snippet from Canary Publishing's highly successful, well-attended launch event. You can see the whole thing here. canarypublishing.substack.com/p/this-is-a-...
Join my colleague William Kolbrener and me on September 29 at 1 p.m. Eastern for a panel discussion sponsored by Moment Magazine called "Do We Need a New Generation of Jewish and Israeli Publishers?" momentmag.com/do-we-need-a...
Happy New Year, and may 5787 be the year to turn back this tsunami of lies against Jews and Israel. I will do my part by amplifying Jewish and Zionist voices through Canary Publishing. Each one of you can also lend your own talents. Shana Tovah, everybody.
Shanah Tovah from all of us at Canary Publishing!
To those who attended Canary Publishing's launch last week, if I didn't get to your question, I'm going to answer them on our Substack newsletter over the next few weeks. So many great questions amid a turnout of around 500 people! canarypublishing.substack.com/p/this-is-a-...
Today is Gordon's seven-month birthday! For those who wonder, his mom was an Airedale Terrier and his dad was a Black Lab. He's inherited all of the Airedale stubbornness and none of the Lab's eagerness to please. Still, he keeps us active.
Canary Publishing officially launched on September 2, and I could not have asked for a better beginning. Thank you to the roughly five hundred people who joined us online. Here's a link to the full video and an edited transcript. canarypublishing.substack.com/p/this-is-a-...
I'm incredibly excited about the huge turnout for the launch of Canary Publishing today and the great questions asked. I'm sorry we couldn't get to all of them. We'll post the whole thing on our website soon. Thanks for being there to launch our movement.
