New @washingtonmonthly.bsky.social: Daniel Hanley & Arnav Rao argue that AI companies do not need an antitrust exemption & should instead use a broadly representative, government-supervised standards body to set clear safeguards for frontier AI development. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/10/07/h...

Big AI’s call for an antitrust exemption is a ruse. Here’s the right way to structure AI safety talks until we have real leadership in Congress and the White House.

In the @washingtonmonthly.bsky.social, my OMI colleague Arnav Rao & I argue that antitrust law can permit AI safety coordination & even output limits, when justified by demonstrable public benefit. No waiver is needed. But private coordination is no substitute for Congress setting the rules.

I reviewed @rogerberkowitz.bsky.social's "A World We Share: Hannah Arendt and the Power of Friendship in a Broken World" for the @washingtonmonthly.bsky.social

The many bonds Hannah Arendt built and maintained across disagreements were beautiful—and, contrary to a new book, not generalizable to America’s crisis of friendship today.

One of the biggest problems with political polling is pollsters, says veteran Dem pollster Stefan Hankin. They overhype the certainty and forget the margin of error.

"Alignment" is a euphemism for "An attempt to stop AI from killing all humanity."

But the most immediately pressing misalignment isn't between human and machine:
♦️It's between the humans who own AI, and the rest of us.

We can fix it-- and we must.
