But we’re running on fumes. Can you pitch in to fuel the fight? www.fightforthefuture.org/donate?incen...

Last year we mobilized thousands of VPN users & privacy advocates like you to press world leaders for VPN defense. This year we added thousands more to the list of action takers.

As long as authoritarian governments work to censor & surveil us for ultimate control, VPNs remain vital tools. That’s why we’re fighting to defend them.

Our CMO Chris Miller, in @fightforthefuture.org's Defend VPNs Day of Action recap:
"Lawmakers are treating privacy like a loophole to close."

With VPNs “Germans can bypass controls on "hate speech",the Chinese can work around restrictions on Winnie the Pooh memes, and people in places like Utah can ignore intrusive age-verification rules.”

So this is great news

THIS IS HUGE: We’ve known that Flock’s warrantless spying on all of us is unconstitutional & now, for the first time, the courts are backing this up! thehill.com/regulation/c...

VICTORY!!! Last night, the Cambridge City Council voted 8-1 to pass a policy order that deprioritizes the arrest and prosecution of persons for consensual adult sex work. We are one step closer to statewide decriminalization. When we fight, we WIN.

Trump has been threatening free speech with surveillance programs aimed at intimidating people his administration doesn't like. As of yesterday the lawsuit three labor unions filed against the Departments of State & Homeland Security for this is moving forward. www.eff.org/press/releas...

For #BannedBooksWeek, it's a good time to remember that book bans are moving online in the form of censorship laws, age verification laws, and attacks on Section 230, often framed as "protecting kids."

Sure that policy continues to lag behind tech developments?

@fightforthefuture.orgOct 5, 2026, 5:05 PM

As new technologies develop, policy continues to drag far behind. What we're seeing with Flock & Meta glasses are clear examples of how this is harmful.

Our director, @evangreer.bsky.social spoke to @nytimes.com about this.

A new lawsuit by journalist @bubbaprog.xyz reveals that the DOJ secretly searched his digital accounts for a wide range of materials.

And prosecutors failed to tell the judges who signed off on it about a federal law that protects the press from search warrants… again.

“Long standing?” ALPRs have existed for like two seconds in historical terms

@fightforthefuture.orgOct 5, 2026, 4:00 PM

A company does not need to verify a users age to prevent multiple people from using the same credentials and any company making this claim is lying. They can prevent people this issue by putting login caps on each account, the same way Netflix does, or push for two factor authentication.

@fightforthefuture.orgOct 5, 2026, 3:53 PM

Great question. Most companies like Discord know that governments are working to push age verification on everyone and they are complying in advance. They shouldn't. Age verification mandates need to be getting push-back in both government and corporate arenas.

Public enemy #1.

What can we learn about how to fight back against Big Tech's surveillance efforts through successful grassroots organizing?

@fightforthefuture.org's Evan Greer breaks it down in this @nytimes.com op-ed:

Good to see reporters calling what's happening in San Francisco what it really is: Surveillance maximalism. The leadership of the city sees no problem they can't solve by defunding resources that prevent crime and pouring all their money, plus all the money offered by billionaires, into policing.

@fightforthefuture.orgOct 1, 2026, 1:18 PM

In some places! That's why we're also fighting this on the legislative side. But by rolling out ID checks worldwide, Discord, YouTube, etc are creating the conditions for more censorship and surveillance in places where it's not yet law. Gotta resist ID checks on all fronts! & companies are moveable
