@jenstden.bsky.socialThinking about how it feels covering a municipal and a provincial election at the same time and I think it feels like this?
@jenstden.bsky.social@isaacphannay.bsky.social reports on a kerfuffle between an ABC supporter and COPE, as COPE alleges the property manager of Sun Wah Centre in Chinatown improperly offered tenants and seniors food to vote in Vancouver's civic election. #vanpoli thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...
@jenstden.bsky.socialWhen the province sold St. Paul’s Hospital to Concord Pacific, the idea was that a new development would revitalize the edge of Davie Village and the downtown business district.
Now ABC is suggesting the hospital be kept as an involuntary care facility. thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...
@jenstden.bsky.socialThank you I feel like I’ve been in a fugue state the past few weeks
@jenstden.bsky.socialThanks Stanley!
@jenstden.bsky.socialI listened to a town hall with Vancouver mayor Ken Sim and he promised to replace the 50 m pool at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre (current plan is to replace it with 25 m pool). Is this a new promise or has he made this one previously?
@jenstden.bsky.socialWhat are the parties promising when it comes to fixing Vancouver's broken pools and crumbling community centres?
If you care about parks and rec, this super comprehensive #vanpoli story by @kehyslop.bsky.social is a must-read this election season thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...
@melwoods.meReposted by @jenstden.bsky.socialReally appreciate Jen and @thetyee.ca asking me to weigh in about the person arrested in connection to the Tumbler Ridge tragedy, and how the ensuing media narrative is both a symptom of the larger anti-trans hate movement and will directly contribute to its continued amplification.
@jenstden.bsky.social"With any development in a case like this, thoughts should immediately go to the victims... But discussion of the victims or their families has taken a back seat to unprecedented levels of anti-trans vitriol from both public figures and media," writes @melwoods.me

@melwoods.meReposted by @jenstden.bsky.socialWriting about the Tumbler Ridge arrest today, and I'm honestly appalled at the level of intentional misgendering from officials and media. To be clear, I don't care if the suspect is offended. This isn't even about pronoun policing. But this sort of stuff is what spreads anti-trans hate at large.
@jenstden.bsky.socialNo mention made that I heard. They met each other on Discord www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
@jenstden.bsky.social😐 sorry to report that We're about to see a very ugly news cycle in the States and in a more limited way, Canadian right-wing media
@jenstden.bsky.socialWe are hearing that the person being charged in the US also identified as trans
@jenstden.bsky.socialThe FBI says this man gave advice to the shooter on how to start the vehicle used to get to the school, after the shooter had already killed two members of her own family, and never reported any information to police
@jenstden.bsky.socialAmerican law enforcement say a Washington State man discussed the Tumbler Ridge shooting with the shooter before she carried it out, and offered to livestream the attack
@thetyee.caReposted by @jenstden.bsky.socialThe Conservative Party of BC says it won’t be co-operating with “splinter parties” like right-wing OneBC, headed by former Conservative MLA Dallas Brodie. @jenstden.bsky.social reports. #bcpoli
@jenstden.bsky.socialWe did it! We watered the tree of democracy!
@jenstden.bsky.socialWe tried but unfortunately the party said no
@jenstden.bsky.social@vancolour.bsky.social and I are hosting an in-person conversation with the Vancouver mayoral candidates tomorrow and some more tickets may now be available. There is also a livestream you can sign up for. #vanpoli
