Yesterday was a bad day for nature as virtually no new funding was announced.
The guessing and uncertainty as how Ireland's Nature Restoration Plan is to be funded goes on.

Rewilding all the way, Ireland
If we could get endangered wildlife to run around a race track they'd have a better chance at getting support from this government.
No extra funding for nature, carbon tax U-turn – the Government is clearly walking away from its climate, nature & energy security commitments in Budget 2027. Great to see coverage of our reaction to Budget 2027

These figures would be higher still if our charging infrastructure was halfway decent!
......also @whittledaway.bsky.social visits Derryclare in Co Galway where ancient oaks have battled to survive amid commercial sitka plantations and a long-promised, long-delayed nature restoration plan still awaits delivery

The most important election this year is in Brazil because the future of the Amazon, and so a global tipping point, hinges on it
If only!
This is such a bad policy and a waste of public money. We should not be paying farmers foe simply owning sheep guven the enormous damage they cause.
We're never going to reach forestry targets if we only see forests as an economic, rather than an ecological, project
It is 7 years since Coillte committed to removing the plantation surrounding the Derryclare forest in Galway but still not a single conifer has been removed.
We now have national restoration targets for 2030 but we'll need get a lot quicker if these are to be met

Agriculture just needs more time to allow pollution measures to work... 🤔
Sometimes I think we're making progress in our attitudes to nature, and then I read an article like this which reminds me that we haven't moved on much at all 😒
Mackerel is off the shelves due to overfishing, so industry relabels a different fish entirely as 'mackerel'
Valuable research into the climate impact of bottom trawling being carried out in the Irish Sea
We were told that the measure agriculture was taking were working and just needed time to show results....
Very disappointing to see that the application by Inland Fisheries Ireland to Limerick City & County Council for the removal of the weir at Annacotty has been refused. Years of planning and campaigning have gone into this - we need to get better at getting these projects over the line
And on the day the EPA highlights - again - the continued dire state of our water
2. Italy joins a growing list of countries being sued by @clienteartheur.bsky.social for allowing bottom trawling in MPAs.
(Meanwhile in Ireland we still don't even have the law for MPAs 😒)
Two small pieces of good news for the sea 🐬
1. The Scottish government is consulting on stronger measures to protect its Marine Protected Areas..
