MPD chief nominee Bill Peterson says he has seen firsthand over 31 years how MPD actions and failures have caused harm to residents of Minneapolis and broke trust. He says he's committed to setting high expectations, holding MPD accountable etc.

“ICE never left. Things became less public, became less of a spectacle, but immigrants are still being targeted and persecuted,” Barham said.

Icymi, I spoke to author @brian-goldstone.bsky.social about his Pulitzer-winning book, ‘There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America.' It's amazing journalism that illuminates the tension at the heart of our society -- many people aren't paid enough to live. share.google/1DZNPcBxv98S...

"There Is No Place For Us" is one of the best works of nonfiction I've read in a long time — if you're considering reading it, this interview by @jcollins.bsky.social with author @briangoldstone.bsky.social is a good starting point

"There are so many languishing in a manufactured invisibility...The ending for those millions of men, women and children remains to be written. [I hope] readers will not just finish the book feeling sad, but they will feel empowered to demand that the suffering end." www.mprnews.org/story/2026/1...

@briangoldstone.bsky.social: "These circumstances are not God-given; they are not somehow natural. This isn't a Greek tragedy where these families are just struck with this unforeseen malady. Each of the circumstances documented in the book are utterly preventable." www.mprnews.org/story/2026/1...

@briangoldstone.bsky.social on the 'working homeless:' "It explodes our ideas about meritocracy — it explodes the American dream. If in the richest nation on the planet, a full-time job or multiple jobs still can't get you a roof overhead, then what is going on?" www.mprnews.org/story/2026/1...

It was a huge honor to talk with @briangoldstone.bsky.social, author of the amazing and heartbreaking "There is No Place for Us." I have a little review tacked onto the top of our conversation, but it's a stunning work that exposes the suffering we tolerate among our fellow citizens. (1)

So grateful to @jcollins.bsky.social for this interview. It was an especially raw conversation, coming just a day after I learned that Maurice had died.

"They are working and working and working some more, and it still isn't enough... There are so many languishing in a manufactured invisibility."

The Minneapolis City Council narrowly approved an ordinance to require human safety monitors in driverless rideshare vehicles on a 7-6 vote. It's not enough support to overcome a veto, which Mayor Jacob Frey has said he will give.

I'd just like to remind people fighting in my comments that a significant portion of accounts posting inflammatory statements on whatever side are likely bots. That's just gonna become more and more true. It's not worth boiling your blood about it.

Good’s brother Brent Ganger: ”I stand here with fierce determination to do what is right for my sister, for her children, and our country. That is to insist on accountability. What happened to her on Jan. 7th and what’s happened to far too many people in the last year is not what America is about.”
