I don't quite have words yet. I'm stunned, grateful, disoriented. My deepest, deepest thanks to the five families without whom this book would not exist. It has been the honor of my life to know and learn from you.

People tell me to "get a job" when I mention that I'm homeless. I was working full-time right before I had a mental breakdown that lead to me losing my job, housing, and possessions(and I have a job now even while living in a shelter). I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Yes. Homelessness is a choice that we make, as a society, every day. If it gets treated as part of the architecture of civilization, that’s only because powerful forces want you to think that way. Finally, it would cost less to house every unhoused person than it costs us to leave them homeless.

We need this written on dozens of massive billboards in Los Angeles. We have neighbors living on the street because we lack affordable housing. The police don’t build housing through arrests and imprisonment. Mental health services don’t conjure up housing. We need beds, and we need them now.

@brian-goldstone.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 2:13 PM

Also: the cruelty inflicted on the unhoused is a barometer of the state violence we're willing to tolerate.

@brian-goldstone.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 2:05 PM

It's actually not complicated. You end homelessness with safe, dignified housing people can afford.

It's World Homeless Day, and I'll just say: Homelessness isn't some great unsolvable mystery. People are homeless because they don't have homes. This suffering persists not for lack of solutions, but because enormous wealth and power are invested in maintaining the very structures that produce it.

ICE shot a man in New York City today while he was in a vehicle with a 5-year-old child. Abolish ICE.

About to testify in favor of this and am going to lift up @brian-goldstone.bsky.social's amazing book There is No Place for Us, which details how corporate behaviors directly lead to people being pushed into homelessness, where they are still used as instruments of profit for shareholders.
