Ann Patchett on Desert Island Discs 😊

I love your stories about people not turning up to your readings in the early days & how few books you sold at first. I’m always quoting you when fellow writers get disheartened (or non writers expect me to sell 1000s of my books).

I wondered if you and Alexander McCall Smith were out on the town last night!

Nice to get good news whenever it lands.

So pleased 'Doggerland' has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best Small Fictions, definitely the piece I am proudest of this year 🥰 Big congrats to all the other nominees and thanks to the NFFD team for the noms (and all that you do!!)

Congratulations to all the nominees! 💐💐💐💐💐

A gorgeous confidence boost!

FlashFlood and The Write-In nominations will be announced in the next few weeks.

I’ve got the heating on. Don’t tell anyone!

People quite often say to me 'oh, I forgot Bluesky, is that still going?' Of course it isn't all about size, and nobody wants a second Twitter situation, but I do think it's worth evangelising a bit. It's good here (most of the time). We can't live on video social sites alone.

What I love about writing flash fiction novellas is that there is always something to do that suits my mood. Today, I am editing (my fav bit). Tis the best fun.

The scene of many a boring Sunday morning for me as a child. A book event sounds much more fun than compulsory church.
