Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube. What are you listening to this weekend?
And a new single from old fave Baby Wave, who just signed to Saddle Creek:
Weird electro from London's Ushko:
Here's a sample of what's there. Austrtalian singer-songwriter Abby Wallace. You think this is straightforward but give it a minute, they lyrics are something else:
The Setlist on October 9, 2026: The weekly playlist. New, independent, under-the-radar. Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube.
Wanna hear the song? Click the damn link. Here's her first single though, which is also great:
One more: Sabrina Russo is a singer-songwriter from New Jersey. She's got a new song out today (her second!) and we introduce her a little here:
Listen to the lyrics. She says the record is influenced by doom metal and drone music, but it's only in the mood, not the sonics. Devastating stuff:
K as promised, here's the piece on the new record by Claire Cronin. It's all I want to listen to. It's also nearly unbearable to think about. Absolutely essential listening:
I also did a deep dive Q&A with Kee Avil (Vicky Mettler) about this record. She's usually pretty reticent in interviews, but she really opens up here, it's a great read:
here, have a listen:
In some alternate universe, Vicky Mettler is writing gorgeous, anthemic love songs on piano and guitar. 'In this one, she’s taken a rusty blade to the form, creating a bizarre soundtrack to an unsettling arthouse horror film that you only kind of understand. More on the new Kee Avil album:
First listen: didn’t really pay attention. Second listen: k there’s something here, for real. Third listen: jaw on floor, tears. My only note for the final song just said “oh my god”. Shattering, harrowing stuff. Best of the year and it’s not close
holy shit team you gotta listen to this Claire Cronin record. Big glowing piece incoming but _holy shit_.
The corner store has two things a kid wants. The arcade game is the legal one. "Hadoken!" New flash fiction by Mary Magdalen Smihula. Read it now:
or just hear the single, but the interview makes it a lot more resonant:
