There's a stupid easy fix for this: āž”ļø RESPECT ROBOTS.TXT ā¬…ļø That's it. If your chatbot's user agent is in robots.txt AND robots.txt says "NO", stop immediately. The reason that this plainly obvious mechanism isn't in place is because Big AI companies feel completely entitled to anything they [ā€¦]

Please boost/favorite if you'd like to see more non lefty (but also obviously non abusive) accounts widely federated here. I believe moderation/defederation that goes beyond protecting users from trolls is slowing adoption here, and thereby helping the spread of fascist BS in society by keeping [ā€¦]

The reason that gas prices and inflation seem to matter more to American voters than all the other horrible things our government does, is because with people consuming partisan media, they are the only things that can't effectively be dismissed as lies or blamed on the party out of power . The public wants #AI to cure cancer etc and would be willing to fund that but the rich are paying to develop a labor replacement machine cause they aren't wealthy enough. Even people who say the new tech helps them, never say they couldn't live without it. While trying to build the latter also [ā€¦]

do whatever you want on your own server but as long as the expectation here is that connecting to another server is unreliable, we won't grow. people will prioritize the bad places and the hate and misinfo will propagate to their billionaire owners' content.

I want fedi to grow because I see algo media replacing mass media and I think that's bad for society. It's making us worse people because acting like a jerk is rewarded. I think everybody being here would fix the problem we have with wealth largely dictating what info, ideas and art gets [ā€¦]
