is THE SOCIAL RECKONING good filmmaking? no. is it good writing? also no. is it fun watching Mikey Madison be mean to Jeremy Allen White? kind of yes.
new Ira Sachs not very good! www.slantmagazine.com/film/the-man...
SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE great comedy about working with a Method actor and, worse, a Method director.

Julianne Moore’s virtuosic performance, writes @tylekurner.bsky.social, gives Jesse Eisenberg’s musical comedy THE DEBUT its emotional footing. The film has its New York premiere today at #NYFF64. shorturl.at/GMU8i
i would take it for 75 cents tho
i feel it is unfair of me because i've never watched anything more than a handful of clips, and, you know, i don't love knocking stuff i'm unwilling to try. but it is a little bit of a pervasive aura that the show has. are you able to sell me on it? (minding that i am not a tv person)
i think they def have kinds of movies and gravitate towards filmmakers that have a distinct style, like a Miramax or a Focus, but i think the idea of there being a consistent visual language for an a24 movie is quite overblown
it's one of my little pet peeves. i understand they have a branded visual identity but the actual overlap between movies is much more variant and diverse. it's a distribution/production company with a library, not, like, an actual director/cinematographer with a resume.
re: a24 movies having some kind of authorial control over the visual style of its entire body of 100+ movies. MOONLIGHT does not look like IN FABRIC does not look like THE END OF THE TOUR does not look like EDDINGTON does not look like THE LIGHTHOUSE does not look like EX MACHINA does not look like
unfair of me but my impression of Ted Lasso is that it is food for babies
unfortunately i am the kind of person who kills time before a movie by seeing a different movie
