I think this is C vitalba. Petals of flowers are relatively longer and more strap-like on C flammula.

I reckon he's just in awe of it all. A whole new world 😍

📢

Tories have pledged to abolish Natural England & Environment Agency. A year ago I flagged both as highly exposed to political interference.

They've been weakened by yrs of cuts & loss of autonomy. Abolition removes scrutiny but doesn't fix problems

Looks more like Prickly Sowthistle - Bristly Oxtongue has pimply leaves, as you say ....

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 7:23 PM

Got it :)

Most of the C distans is a little further south towards Kessingland (central portion of TM 5387 and just creeping up into 5388) - likes it a little higher and drier than the C extensa. Broader leaves are a useful spotting feature.

.... except @sarahlambert7.bsky.social's , which doesn't seem to have come through, so apols, Sarah. Not sure why it's not on the database, but if you want to add as an App record I can make sure it gets on there.

First record for over 50 years ....

Never the woodpecker poo... are you collecting it? Happy to send some of ours 😘

🤣

A Very Useful List. Microwave here was left on. Also need to make sure I turn the laptop off at night. Both my fault - must do better 😔

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 8:42 AM

The latter is still about and doing really well there. I did see you'd spotted the vetch midway between Chris Romer's previous sightings so look forward to encountering it myself in Norfolk/Suffolk before too much longer.

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 8:04 PM

Will have to keep trying :)

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:46 PM

Also worth looking out for it anywhere S of Gt Yarmouth on sandy beaches, away from trampled areas and above the high tide mark - eg at Gorleston it lurks about the footings of the lifeguard station and sea defences.

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:45 PM

Maybe it'll happen for me one day, but I think I might be hampered by using soya milk....

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:02 PM

A thing of great beauty 🥰

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 6:57 PM

You need to get them better trained... at least he took a photo though :)

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 6:55 PM

Fig rolls are a favourite of mine (and will eat as many actual figs as I can get my hands on) but curiously, the lower Yare catchment isn't covered with fig-forest....

@jo-the-botanist.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 12:58 PM

See reply to @chrislansdell.bsky.social with grid refs. If either of you locate more plants, pop them on iNaturalist, iRecord or BSBI App as you prefer as am sure the Suffolk VCR will be pleased to have as many records as we can find :)
