A bite or scratch from an animal can be easy to brush off. With rabies, don’t.

Instead:
🧼 Wash the wound well with soap & water.
🩺 Seek medical advice ASAP.
💉 Don’t wait for symptoms. Treatment after exposure can prevent rabies when started in time.

Yesterday was #WorldRabiesDay. #Rabies is preventable, yet it still claims a life every 9 minutes. India bears nearly a third of the global burden. PATH is working with partners in India to strengthen health systems that can help close gaps in prevention and care. Swipe through

A poster features logos for the Centre for Health Research and Innovation and PATH at the top. Below, there is an illustration of a syringe and silhouettes of a dog and a person against a globe. The text reads: "Ending Rabies in India. Rabies is almost entirely preventable - when care is timely and appropriate. That's the difference a strong response makes." An arrow icon is at the bottom right.Rabies infographic titled "Rabies is a growing concern worldwide and in India." The top section highlights the global burden: US$ 8.6 billion spent to tackle rabies and 59,000 estimated deaths annually. The bottom section addresses India-specific statistics: 9.1 million animal bites reported each year, over 95% dog bite cases, and 5,726 rabies deaths annually. Sources include WHO, ICMR-NIE, and The Lancet. Logos for the Centre for Global Health Research and PATH are present. An infographic titled "One Health approach required through multistakeholder action" presented by the Centre for One Health Research and PATH. It includes categories such as "Animal husbandry department" for dog vaccination, "Community members" for reporting dog bites, "Health facilities" for PEP administration, and "National government" for policy formulation. Other categories include "Urban local bodies" for sterilization drives, "Surveillance systems" for cluster analysis, and "Animal welfare organisations" for vaccination support. A small note cites the source as NAPRE 2021 by MoHFW & DAHD and WHO Zero by 30 strategy. This image is an infographic titled "Key priorities to achieve WHO's zero by 30 target" created by the Centre for Global Health Research and PATH. It highlights steps to combat rabies in India, such as scaling dog vaccination, improving post-exposure prophylaxis, and increasing community awareness. It also mentions that rabies is a national priority, the concept of a "Rabies Free City," free anti-rabies vaccines, and animal birth control measures.

2. Vaccination is a critical part of Trap-Neuter-Return (#TNR), which is the best opportunity for community cats to be vaccinated for rabies. For that reason, and many more, TNR is the only humane and effective approach to community cats.
