This photo was taken from the swinging bridge that crosses the Merced River south of Yosemite Falls in Mid-Winter in Yosemite Valley. One of my favorite times to be in the valley.

Winter Falls

This image shows a breathes cold, quiet Yosemite winter. From the swinging bridge, the Upper Falls drops in a long white ribbon, its plunge crisp and powerful against the granite walls. The air feels sharp, the kind that stings your lungs a little, and the waterfall’s winter beard—ice clinging to the rock overnight—adds a frosted texture that makes the whole face of the cliff look ancient and weathered.
Below, the Merced River lies still enough to become a perfect mirror, doubling the falls and the muted winter sky in reflections so clean they almost look like a second world opening beneath the bridge. The calm water carries that hushed winter feeling—no wind, no rush—just a glassy surface holding light and shadow with equal tenderness.
