#ThePresidio of #SanFrancisco was founded on #ThisDayInHistory in 1776 by the viceroyalty of #NewSpain. The Royal Fortress of Saint Francis passed to #México in 1820, then to the US in 1848, and was an active Army base until closed in 1988 and given to the #NationalParkService.
