One of t most poignant moments in a novel full of them comes amidst a wacky calling of t spirits when Castorp utters one word upon seeing t vision of his poor dead cousin who, we feel as readers, he didn’t pay enough attention to. Castorp HAS changed/grown up after all. #TheMagicMountain

In #TheMagicMountain #DerZauberberg Drunk Peeperkorn, very appropriately imo calls Hans a "SchwätzerCHEN", but in my translation they just say "blabbermouth" leaving off the diminutive "chen" which both belittles but also softens the insult to sth akin to "LITTLE chatterer/windbag".

Loved every moment reading this wonderful, beautiful book #thomasmann #themagicmountain
