Well that was bitter, and funny. A much better film than it was credited for. Much more self aware. it definitely has uneven tone and goes from horror to camp, jarringly, but it’s deliberate. no wonder people didn’t get this at the time… it confused the audience

There's such a bizarre contrast here between the value these filmmakers place on a "star", acknowledging the rareness of even finding one—and then the way they don't hesitate to sacrifice them, destroy them, and treat them as disposable anyway. #TheLegendOfLylahClare #TCMParty

I'm distracted by how grossed out I am over how much dust there must be in that bedroom. The greyish mauve overwhelming the room is also such a dead-looking dusty colour. Theres no windows. I think Robert Aldrich is giving a big middle finger to Hollywood, and having fun making fun of it too. Its all irony.

So he locked her in the mansion and says she has to stay there, and then when she goes into Lylah's room with him, it's not even inhabitable! It's exactly as it was when she died, including overturned furniture. Um, interesting. #TheLegendOfLylahClare #TCMParty

Peter Finch is having fun chewing the scenery as this horrible director . Letts give him credit for having a sense of humor, Borgnine and Novak too

Robert Aldrich just showed more realistic scenes of how awful Hollywood is: the Borgnine character as Hollywood producer who is a crass philistine, flunkies who are yes men, catty actresses who are bitter, ALDRICH HATES HOLLYWOOD
