Ki te kotahi te kākaho, ka whati; ki te kāpuia, e kore e whati : When a reed stands alone, it breaks; if it is bundled together, it will not break.

All of my books result fr. support by people who lend their matauranga, & my parents.

Ki te kotahi te kākaho, ka whati. Ki te kāpuia e kore e whati-When we stand alone, we are vulnerable, but together we are unbreakable.

Ka aroha au i koe ki tōku ngākau-I love you to my heart.

What are some of your favourite expressions of love?

“Taniwha's Terrors” is a bedtime story about the things we imagine are scarier than what's really there.

I wanted to show that even those who appear to be strong can face fears we can’t see, & we might have the same struggles too.

‘I Te Waokū Pōuriuri’ is a bilingual retelling of ‘In The Dark Dark Woods,’ a story that I loved telling when I was a teacher, and the tamariki loved the jump-scare at the end.

Every picture has a hidden ruru to spot as well.

‘Ka Aroha Au I A Koe Ki Tōku Ngākau’ is a translation of the popular ‘I Love You To My Heart.’

Given that the characters in the original are a baby and adult Kiwi, it seemed right to translate this into te reo Māori.

I wrote ‘Te Kōrero o te Moko Kauae’ because I found myself thinking,
“I know what the dictionary and internet say a Moko Kauae is, but what does it mean, what is the feeling behind it?”

Kia ora anō

In “The Valley Road Diaries 2,” neither of the main characters are Māori - however, Māori culture is still present in the story.

What are ways that you celebrate being Māori?

Mauri ora

A well known Māori kīwaha-saying is:
Ēhara tāku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini.
My strength is not that of an individual, but that of many.

My 3 Māori books wouldn’t’ve been possible without the amazing people helping.
