FRB20240304B is now the most distant FRB ever detected, bursting when the Universe was a young three billion years old.

MeerKAT detected it and localised it, then JWST followed up to identify the host galaxy.

Deep field image showing a portion of the sky with many galaxies. Two nearby stars are bright and show diffraction spikes. A small inset square is annotated showing the location of the FRB near a fuzzy blob of light.

As part of a collaboration between PhD students, these observations were taken with Murriyang (CSIRO Parkes radio telescope) and verified with South Africa's MeerKAT.

Plot with two vertical tiles, each tile representing data from Parkes and the MeerKAT telescope. On the x-axis is pulse phase and on the y-axis is time. Both telescopes report the profile change event features in unison.Three-panel image. Two small square panels on the left side show the eigenprofile of the principal component for two telescopes. It features a sharp narrow peak and two smaller narrow troughs on either side. The larger third panel on the right plots the data points as a function of time on the x-axis and normalised PC score on y-axis. The curves start with a gradual recovery then suddenly dip before slowly recovery back exponentially too.

J0437 is the brightest and closest MSP to Earth.

Both events altered the same profile components in the same way and followed a similar evolution over time, exhibiting frequency dependence and affecting polarisations.

Plot with pulse phase on x-axis and flux density in milliJansky on y-axis. Inside the plot are eight curves, colour-coded to represent different frequency bands, showing the pulsar profile. Three columns are shaded pink, grey and purple, indicating the different regions of the profile that were affected by the profile change.Plot with two tiles showing pulse phase on x-axis and polarisation positin angle on y-axis. Plotted are the PA of the template and three dates, showing the onset date shifting the PAs in the specific region of the profile.

Are millisecond Pulsars, nature's cosmic clocks, as stable as we once thought?

A new study by @rami.spaceaustralia.com has reported the discovery of two consecutive profile change events on PSR J0437-4715.
