High contrast, square black and white self portrait seen through a sheet of shattered safety glass. A dense web of fine cracks creates an abstract geometric texture across the entire frame, casting bright highlights and deep shadows. The faint, dark silhouette of a person is visible in the centre, distorted and obscured behind the fractured glass.

Went to see Forgotten Island with my local cousins on Saturday night. Tons and tons of Filipino references and the music was awesome! Movie was really good, but also quite sad and dark at times. Plus, somehow my cousin Mike and I ended up sorta matching!

You are fetchingly lovely, as always. Here’s my Sunday Selfie. Shot with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Edited in Hipstamatic (Jack London/DC/Apollo filters). #hipstamatic #iphonography #iphoneonly #selfportraitsunday #instagram

Now they try to get me out of the street. But, in my heyday, it’s “get T. out of the bathroom. She’s probably taking selfies.”

Vertical mirror selfie in warm, theatrical light against deep red patterned wallpaper. The person's face, dark voluminous hair, and energetic, laughing grimace are softly out of focus, while the phone and hands at chest level anchor the lower center. A close-up square crop focusing sharply on a person’s hands holding a black smartphone horizontally at chest level. The fingers and knuckles are in sharp relief, with only the laughing mouth and teeth visible above the phone against dark shadows and a glimpse of red wallpaper.

After a busy morning crafting goshuincho in Tokyo we are on the bullet train to Kanazawa. None too soon as the huge crowds of Tokyo make me claustrophobic.

Let's see your mug.

It is, quite literally, #SelfPortraitSunday over here and we’re in the #TrustTheProcess stage of things, oof. 😅

A large canvas on an easel fills the foreground of a bright dining room. On the canvas is a loose blue underdrawing of a seated woman, with her curled hair, face, shoulders, hands, clothing, and surrounding interior lightly sketched in. Behind the canvas, a single color reference photograph is propped against an open, customized vintage train case, showing the woman seated and facing forward in a striped dress with and open cardigan. A black-and-white print rests partly across the open train case. On the dining table are painting supplies, including brushes and a glass palette with blue paint. A stained-glass table lamp stands beside large windows looking out toward neighboring buildings and greenery.

9/6: Closing out summer with some Mary Oliver energy for today’s #ImageAndVerse (“In Blackwater Woods” in alt text) #Stunday #SelfPortraitSunday #eck

“In Blackwater Woods”
Mary Oliver, 1983.

Look, the trees
are turning
their own bodies
into pillars

of light,
are giving off the rich
fragrance of cinnamon
and fulfillment,

the long tapers
of cattails
are bursting and floating away over
the blue shoulders

of the ponds,
and every pond,
no matter what its
name is, is

nameless now.
Every year
everything
I have ever learned

in my lifetime
leads back to this: the fires
and the black river of loss
whose other side

is salvation,
whose meaning
none of us will ever know.
To live in this world

you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it

against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go.
