Apparently 'glance' is one of my over-used words, so it was hard to narrow down. Went with a somewhat vague snip of Capt Hook supervising her crew in the midst of a downpour.

Just as I began drumming my fingers on the railing, someone, Payne by the sound of his voice, called out from the bow, “Eyes starboard!”

“How many?”

“Um…four…no, maybe five?” Payne calls but didn’t sound sure and I frowned.

I looked towards him to gauge his position on the deck and where he was looking and called out, “Adeola.”

Our sharpshooter, a gorgeous lanky woman from Botswana, nodded once and sprinted through the rain to Payne’s side, raising her ridiculously long rifle and peering down its scope. A second later, she called, “Counting five. Maybe a killy an’ a half out.”

“Shot?” I inquired.

A beat, then Adeola replied, “Nah, no shot. They’ve people with ‘em.”

Beanie and I shared a glance. “Pitits?” I asked in response.

Another tense beat and Adeola called, “Nah, they look grown. One of ‘em’s carrying bags.”

“Delivery,” Beanie said, and I gave him a terse nod. They were early this year.

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OCEAN!!

Today, we have Princess Eva, not so much lying to herself as being confronted with a relative stranger knowing her business and responding with a very mature 'nuh uh!', from my unnamed political fantasy WIP.

“Please don’t be offended, Arlo, when I say the details about my apparent engagement, and why it upset me, are matters I’d really prefer not to share presently.”

Arlo stared at me for a long moment, aqua-coloured eyes boring into me thoughtfully, before he finally inquired, “Is it ‘cause you’re only attracted to women?”

My brows rose to my hairline and I sputtered, “I beg your pardon?”

I wanted to wipe the irritatingly satisfied grin that he gave in response from his smug face. “Tell me I’m wrong.”

“You’re wrong!” I insisted without hesitation, leaning forward and resting my elbows on my knees. “I’m attracted to men. Of course I’m attracted to men. Who told you otherwise?” I looked at Blaire who shook her head, seemingly trying to suppress her bemusement, before returning my gaze to Arlo. “Do you need proof? I could kiss you…I’ll kiss you right now.” It was not my most dignified moment. I was only happy my mother was not there to see me.
