For the #BirdoftheDay alt theme of #Corvids, I have another photo from Saturday at #PrescottPreserve in #PalmSprings. Here is a raven looking around the sandy grounds for something to eat. #Birds #Nature #Photography

Seen walking toward the viewer with the left foot raised off the ground is a large black raven. We see his/her beak open as if to say, "get out of my way!" The feathers are mostly a glossy black, with some hints of brown here and there. The throat has the extra prominent feathering that helps distinguish it from the crows. The background is desert grounds with some dead brown chopped off grasses scattered about.

Today's #BirdoftheDay theme is #Raptors.
Here is a juvenile Cooper's hawk from last weekend at #PrescottPreserve, #PalmSprings.

Perched on a diagonal branch with his/her back to us is a brown-backed hawk. His head is turned to look at the viewer, and we see the yellow eye and the hooked beak. There is a fine horizontal streaking on the head and neck which almost looks orange in the morning sunlight. The tail is gray with black horizontal bands. The tree has some scattered small green leaves and the background is clear blue sky.

Today's #BirdoftheDay is #LightandShadow. I saw this American kestrel perched in #PrescottPreserve, #PalmSprings over the weekend. Have a good week ahead!

Facing the camera is a small falcon perched on a thin, bare tree branch. The bird's face is turned to the side, giving us a profile view of the vertical black banding seen on the kestrels. He has a gray cap, and a short, hooked beak. The chest is rufous colored with black spots falling down the front. The background is a light blue sky. The right side of the bird is in shadow--as the early morning sunlight is coming in from his left.
