Yes, the 120 day data center moratorium was passed late Tuesday night by the #PimaSupes. We dug into the details of what they actually passed and what it means to the two data centers we know about it.

In short? Both are completely exempt from the moratorium.

This wraps up my #PimaSupes coverage. Thanks to all who followed along.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 3:40 AM

The #PimaSupes are discussing the proclamation policies.

It could potentially lead to three proclamations a meeting, although board could override their own rules at any time.

It passes 4 to 0.

I am sticking around until the #PimaSupes meeting ends - I have questions - but there isn't a lot to left on the agenda to write about.

County Supervisor Rex Scott refers to advice from the Pima County Attorney's Office, saying he is going to vote against the moratorium based on that advice.

Scott also thinks the health study impact of data centers brought to the #PimaSupes from the board of health is flawed.

It looks like there is three votes on the #PimaSupes for the 120 day moratorium on data centers.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 3:09 AM

And we're back. #PimaSupes

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 2:27 AM

Feel free to start your own rumor. #PimaSupes

If you are asking what happen to the #PimaSupes feed, they went immediately into executive session before discussing the 120 day moratorium.

So the question is, what reasons did they want to go behind closed doors to talk with their lawyers?

Did someone threaten legal action?

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 2:16 AM

This sounds great, but I'll remind everyone that the #PimaSupes aborted the last "in-house" selection process in favor of the current "nationwide" search.

Supervisor Allen gives a time line for replacing Jan Lesher, with the #PimaSupes expected to meet, interview and select a new county administrator by the end of October.

In about ten minutes, the #PimaSupes will discuss the 120 day moratorium on (new) data centers.

Whether it extends to data centers currently going through the development process (#ProjectGravel) remains unclear.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 1:53 AM

The #PimaSupes agree to approve the license (with some conditions) but the state liquor control board will have the final say.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 1:53 AM

We are discussing a liquor license request for a bar in Sasabe.

Staff wanted more time before the clerk noted the Arizona Liquor Board - the final arbiter of liquor licenses - would meet before the #PimaSupes was scheduled to meet again.

The last speaker echoes the previous speaker.

But then she starts talking about Proposition 421, which is a city-referred proposition related to a franchise agreement with Tucson Electric Power.

Sadly, outside of how the 5 members of #PimaSupes vote privately, there isn't a nexus with Prop 421.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 1:27 AM

Nope. Two more speakers. Sorry about that.

The young woman says she appreciates the 120 day moratorium, says she wishes the #PimaSupes considered this a long time ago - hinting at the #ProjectBlue fight.

She supports a full ban on data centers.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 1:13 AM

Mike Humphrey, who sits on the Pima County Board of Health, asks the #PimaSupes to back the moratorium on data centers.

He says #ProjectGravel deserves a care public health evaluation before any zoning permits are issued.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 1:13 AM

Reed Sperling thanks the #PimaSupes for considering a 120-day moratorium, tells them it should be a permanent ban on data centers.

He wants them to reconsider some of the larger industrial projects and their impact on the fragile Sonoran Desert ecosystem.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 12:57 AM

Call to the public for #PimaSupes starts now.

@joeferguson.bsky.socialSep 23, 2026, 12:47 AM

If you are waiting for the #PimaSupes to talk about the proposed 120 day moratorium on data centers, get comfortable.

Also known as item #18 (on the agenda) it will be discussed at 7 p.m. tonight.
