The graded shading that radiates outwards from the hip has created the impression of a firework launched into the night sky in a starburst of silver. You can almost hear the crackle of the sparks as they fade. Early #1920s #PalaisGalliera #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

There is, as ever, immense skill in apparent simplicity. Balenciaga’s 1966 ensemble consists of this buttoned tunic cut in one piece on the bias so that it revolves from shoulder to hip. Lovely, yes please #PalaisGalliera #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Au Palais Galliera, "Tisser, broder, sublimer" rend enfin justice aux artisans de l'ombre, brodeurs, plumassiers, tisserands, qui font l'exception de la haute couture.

The difference between front & back is barely discernible, such is the cool drama of Molyneux’s mid #1930s velvet gown. A slight dip at the neck & opening at the front of the floor length sleeves, otherwise it is a mirror of itself as she stands in velvety majesty #PalaisGalliera #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Black on black was never more effective than scrolling over the surface of Balenciaga’s 1947 evening dress. The texture of the sequins, embroidered by Rebé, flashes, the only colour a swoop of red velvet around the sleeves & hem #PalaisGalliera #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
