🎶Did you know that #PacificPeopleForest has its own soundtrack?

It’s called ‘Teteto Days’ and was created by Cesar Parcero-Oubiña, one of our senior researchers.

🌍 #WorldHabitatDay | #Island ecosystems are also our #habitat

🗓️ For #PacificPeopleForest, this date offers an opportunity to broaden our perspective on the concept of habitat. On an island such as #Rota, the human habitat cannot be understood in isolation from the ecosystems that sustain it.

🛖On the north coast of Rota lies Mochong, one of the island’s most important archaeological sites and one of the best-preserved Latte settlements (#MarianaIslands).

ℹ️The site covers some 12 hectares of limestone terraces by the sea and preserves more than 50 latte complexes.

🎼 International Music Day

👉 At #PacificPeopleForest, we believe that to understand the history of #Rota and the #MarianaIslands, we must also listen to the voices of their communities.

🎶 #JohnnySablan holds a special place in this legacy; he is one of the pioneers of contemporary #Chamorro music.

🇲🇵 Archaeological excavation is one of the lines of research that form part of the scientific background work leading up to #PacificPeopleForest.

ℹ️ Since 2022, the work carried out in #Rota has made it possible to explore, document and preserve part of its archaeological heritage.

🌿 #WorldEnvironmentalHealthDay aims to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy environment for the well-being of societies and of the environmental challenges that affect our health.

ℹ️ At #PacificPeopleForest, we explore this connection from a historical perspective.

🌊 #WorldMaritimeDay

👉 For the societies of the #Pacific, the #sea has been much more than a means of transport. It has connected territories, people and cultures, and has played a vital role in providing food, facilitating the exchange of resources and transforming landscapes.

📍At the southern tip of #Rota lies #Taipingot, a limestone formation rising approximately 143 metres above sea level.

ℹ️For #PacificPeopleForest, Taipingot is a particularly significant site, very well preserved, that shows a different aspect of the #Chamorro life.

ℹ️Between 2022 and 2025 continuous archaeological research have led to progress in the documentation and preservation of the heritage of #Rota.

🔎The results expanded our understanding of the distribution of Rota’s archaeological heritage.

✈️Conducting fieldwork on a remote island presents a significant logistical challenge.

ℹ️ These logistical constraints are a daily reality of archaeological fieldwork. But they also raise another important question: the environmental cost of doing research in such remote places.

💧 The work of #PacificPeopleForest: archaeobotanical flotation

🌱 In #archaeology, a significant proportion of the information is reconstructed from vegetal remains that are barely visible to the naked eye.

👌To recover them we use, amongst other techniques, archaeobotanical #flotation.

🌾 #WorldAgricultureDay

👉 At #PacificPeopleForest, we study how communities on the #Pacificislands have used and transformed their environments over time. Through #archaeology, #history and #botany, we investigate food production practices and their relationship with changes in the island.
