#Northantsbirds Hadn't been to Summerleys for a while, so pleasantly surprised by the number of ducks present, with 150+ Wigeon, plus 30-odd each of Gadwall and Shoveler. Careful checking (hoping for Bw Teal or Am Wigeon🙂) and came across a Garganey, good reward for being thorough with them ducks😉.

115 Mipits in the fields between EB and Ecton. New record!
20 Skylark as well.
Just waiting for the rare pipit or Lap bunting 🙄

#Northantsbirds A trudge around Thrapston GP and Titchmarsh LNR this morning, with a Cattle Egret straight off the bat on Islip Water Meadow being the highlight (also 21 Egyptian Geese, personal record count, incl. the psychotic-looking leucistic bird!); Titchmarsh quiet, very few duck, zero waders.

#Northantsbirds Peek-a-boo! With no sign of the Osprey, this Barn Owl was the highlight at NW South this evening (2nd Barn Owl briefly as well); also present, 2 Pintail, several Snipe, 4 Green Sand, 3-4 Gt Egret, several each of Wigeon and Shoveler, 12+ Little Egret.

Just added Jay to my ‘birds that flew over my house, but I wasn’t in the garden to ✔️it ‘list.
Also got Whimbrel and Brambling on there.🤦🏻‍♂️

Dunlin & Ringed Plover at Hollowell Reservoir earlier this week. A mixed group here for several weeks now, sometimes all together, but usually in two separate parties; maximum counts 7 of the former and a notable 22 of the latter. #northantsbirds #waders

The dog met lots of Northants birding luminaries as well.

Black-tailed Godwit this morning at Ravensthorpe Reservoir (with Green Sandpiper and Teal behind it). Irregular here (this is only my second ever record) - the site normally lacks any significant muddy margins. #northantsbirds #waders

4 Dunlin this morning at Hollowell Reservoir: 5 birds present for the last couple of days. Also here this morning: 15 Ringed Plover - pretty sure that’s my best count for this site #waders #northantsbirds

#Northantsbirds Afternoon session at the NW, with the North holding a Green Sand, and 104 Teal on the East pool (c30 more about the complex), while the South had 3 juv Ruff, the juv Osprey still, 2 juv Hobby, 3 Gt Egret and 2 Pintail; adult YL Gull by the gravel company compound.

#Northantsbirds An earlyish start at Kinewell Lake today in glorious Autumn sunshine, will never tire of this place, looking forward to the Winter period🙂. First Wigeon of Autumn, with c30 present, and 3 Pintail were the highlight, also several Shoveler and 2 Teal, plus Gt Egret, Raven and Hobby.

Grey Partridge helluva noisy at first light this morning in the fields around Ecton.
Owl having a squeal could be baby Tawny or our old friend Little Owl, indecipherable as it was distant and only once.

#Northantsbirds Another wander around the New Workings early evening, feels like it's only a matter of time before a decent wader drops in (damn sight more mud than Summerleys can muster😉). Juv Osprey still, 3 Pintail,3 Gt Egret, 2-3 Green Sand, 2 Snipe and juv Hobby; 61 Teal on the East pool North.

Yesterday’s Sedge Warbler down by the river is my first Northants September record for ages, possibly ever.
Osprey again, Green Sand, and 32 Teal on the new workings.
Ominous shooting hut/hide built on one of the islands though!
