In early spring, a Monarch butterfly was born in central Mexico and started its migration north. It is now October, and that Monarch’s great grandchild is ready to return home. It requires four generations of Monarchs to complete one migration cycle.

As September winds down, the Sonoran Desert is quietly preparing for the fall monarch butterfly migration. 🦋 While northern milkweeds die back, our native Desert Milkweed (Asclepias subulata) is just getting started.

One more from the Monarch Migration 🧡 It's such a magical thing to see. It's been 5 years since the last time I got to see them go through Midewin, and I kinda thought I'd never see it again. ✨️

A Monarch butterfly perches vertically on a dense branch of yellow Canada goldenrod flowers, showing off its striking orange and black wings. It is completely ignoring the CIAS airshow happening overhead in the blue sky, firmly believing that its own personal aerodynamic maneuvers are far superior to any fighter jet.
