Marie explains Giant Skin
#mariexplains

Giant Epidermis!

The Skin of Giants is made up of many distinct layers, very much resembling the bark of trees. This appears to give immense protection against cuts or tears. Or even fire and lightning!

The makeup of giant skin seems to diffuse the electricity to such a degree that not much damage is done at all. My Lady described it as a stinging. But not much more. I am amazed!

The trade-off seems to be a bodywide numbness. The skin is so thick that it interferes with their sense of touch.
No one has mentioned this!
Not in a single one of my textbooks!!!
Did no one talk to a single giant while writing about giant anatomy?!

Internally you can see these skin layers quite clearly. They almost resemble growth rings in trees. These rings are actually present from birth!
This is...and I am not sure if I am allowed to share this...one of the more questionable ways that the Eltic bloodline has tried to predict sprouting
It is accurate but barbaric!

A comic page

924 A.G.
Frost season

Emily is standing around hunched in armor. Holding her head. She looks tired

Emily: tired. no sun.

Marie in voiceover: Giants seem to be able to live almost entirely off of sunlight.
Which explains, why their appetites are so low.
This makes enduring Frost season a challenge though!

925 A.G.
Blaze season

A wide angle closeup of Emily boiling inside her helmet. She is sweating and the air is distorted.

Marie: But Blaze season is not much better!
At least in times of war...
There's plenty of sun.
But giants produce LOT ol body heat as is!

Dates in a #agreatknight
#mariexplains

A.G. / "Anno Gigantes"
is the dating system used all over Gorwelle and parts of Floria.

From what my research tells me, it was introduced by High King Edmund Fidelis Arborius the First some 500 years ago to point to the birth of Elto- both the religious figure and the country of the same name.

The current year, as of writing this,
is 926 A.G.

If we take different calendars from, say, the cradle or Tyr we could also be living in the year 1592 or 9246 A.G.

Tying the calendar to "the birth of the first giant" splits history into a before and an after: Giants/ no Giants.

But lam not convinced that we can even clearly make that cut anywhere.
A.G.being introduced so much after the fact makes me wonder, if we can even accurately find a proper "year zero" if we had the records.
Naturally almost everything from that time has been lost.
I will have to dive deep into the archives at the castle on my next visit....
Although I dread to return.
