The #LascauxCave/#GrotteDeLascaux #CavePaintings were discovered on #ThisDayInHistory in 1940 when a boy's dog inspected a hole left by an uprooted tree. Their #PrehistoricArt was produced between 17,000 & 22,000 years ago. The caves have been closed since 1964 to protect them.

Celebrating my first post with photos from Ralph Morse, the first professional photographer to document the #LascauxCave in 1947. In his 90s, Morse remembered the assignment as a 'dungarees-and-sweatshirt job,' where you had to slide down on your rear end to enter the cave. More tinyurl.com/6hvmxy2k
