King David I of Scots invited Benedictine monks from Tiron Abbey in France to establish a house at Selkirk. By 1128 the monks had relocated to Kelso. Kelso Abbey was destroyed in 1545 during the Wars of the 'Rough Wooing'. #KelsoAbbey #HistoryRebuilt #ScottishAbbeys

I visited Kelso Abbey, built in the 12th Century and recently reopened to the public, on our holiday last week. It’s free to visit if you are in the Scottish Borders #kelsoabbey #ruinedabbey #scottishborders
