The Royal Botanic Gardens 1834 & 1858 Palm Houses are looking magnificent following their restoration, and they’re one single space now. 👌💚

Hume Castle, a wonderfully eccentric folly built near Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders in the 1780s that evokes sand, camels and Beau Geste. What you see today was built on the site of a formidable castle with origins in the 1200s. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

Hume Castle. The image shows a view across a green field to a grassy mound that rises beyond a stone wall and some trees. On its top is an extravagantly crenellated stone castle that appears square and has rounded corners. The sky is blue.

You can’t ask a dead man who pulled the trigger. ‘A Tangled Web’ is a fast-paced contemporary thriller set in northern Scotland. The battlefield at Culloden is visited by the central character as the story builds.

The memorial cairn at Culloden battlefield. The image shows a large cylindrical cairn made of large rocks in the centre of the frame which has gorse growing on top of it. There are three people standing on this side of the cairn and looking at a stone plaque which identifies the site. There is vegetation in the background. The sky is blue and the scene is in sunlight. The front cover of ‘A Tangled Web’ is shown in the top right corner.

I saw the light (or lack thereof) yesterday, and grabbed my camera and stepped outside, pretty sure I'd see the mother of all rainbows. But there was none. There was however, the darkest and brightest 'at the same time' moment I think I've ever seen. Extraordinary.

Brightly lit trees and a dark sky.

Some wonderful footage capturing the last year of Glasgow's trolleybuses. They came late to the city, only appearing in 1949, making Glasgow the last British city to implement such a system. They outlived the tram network by 7 years, running for the last time in 1967

The spectacular Ballachulish slate quarries, an unlikely but fascinating visitor attraction. Slate was extracted for over two and a half centuries until 1955; and from 1903 the quarries were served by a branch railway from Oban. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

The Ballachulish slate quarries. The image shows a gravel track leading into the frame from its lower right corner and a sign saying Ballachulish Slate Quarries in the lower left. If you walk west along Doune Gardens in the  North Kelvinside area of Glasgow, you may notice something odd. For no obvious reason, the buildings suddenly change and its name becomes Doune Quadrant. So, why does this happen?
