Jakkō-in, a temple located in Ōhara, Kyoto, was founded by Prince Shōtoku Taishi in 594.

A few pictures from my archives. I visited Jakkō-in (寂光院) in Ōhara, Kyoto. The garden there is beautiful, with ponds and Koi fish. It was well into December, and the autumn leaves had fallen to the ground.
Jakko-in is a renowned temple that once served as the secluded residence of Kenreimon-in Tokuko (1155–1213). Tokuko was the daughter of Taira no Kiyomori (1118–1181), the powerful chief of the Heike clan, and the consort of Emperor Takakura. After the Heike clan's devastating defeat at the naval Battle of Dan-no-ura, where they were crushed by Minamoto no Yoshitsune (1159–1189)—the younger brother of the Genji clan chief—Tokuko was rescued from an attempted suicide and found refuge at Jakko-in.
