Peter Brock designed the Daytona Coupe in 1964 because the Cobra roadster wasn't fast enough on Le Mans' long Mulsanne Straight. Shelby built six. In 1965 they won the FIA GT world title, the first American car to do it.

Most people pick a parking spot for the shade. This owner picked one that matched the paint.

Ferrari built just 36 of the 250 GTO between 1962 and 1964, priced around $18,000 new, and Enzo reportedly approved each buyer himself. One sold at auction in 2018 for $48.4 million. Here they are getting wrenched on like any other shop car.

Porsche built exactly 918 of the 918 Spyder, each one an 887 hp plug-in hybrid. The acid green calipers were Porsche's signal for its hybrids. Whoever owns this garage also parks a Defender in back and keeps the espresso machine within ten steps of both.

Aston Martin DB Mark III Drophead Coupé, late 1950s. Aston built only 84 of these open cars, and this grille shape went on to define every DB that followed. The aubergine paint over red leather is a bold choice that works.

Three vertical taillights per side have marked a Mustang since the first one left Dearborn in 1964. This fastback dates to 1967 or 1968, the years Ford stretched the roofline all the way to the tail. #HusbuddyAuto

Six air-cooled 911s climbing a Cotswolds lane in single file. The "H" at the start of the lead car's plate dates its registration to 1990 or 1991, the 964 years, even though the body copies the 1970s cars. Pity the silver Skoda that has to park next to this.

This looks like a Singer, the Los Angeles shop that rebuilds 1989 to 1994 Porsche 911s with carbon fiber bodies styled in the 1960s cars. Each takes thousands of hours and costs well past $500,000. Strapping a surfboard to one and parking it on wet sand takes nerve. #HusbuddyAuto #Porsche911 #Singer

Mercedes built 1,858 of the 300 SL Roadster between 1957 and 1963. The 3.0-liter straight-six leans 50 degrees to fit under that low hood, and only one of the two hood bulges clears the engine. The speedometer reads to 270 km/h, about 168 mph.

Early 1960s sports car racing ran on cotton coveralls, open-face helmets, and polo shirts. Nobody kept the crowd off the grid either, so you could stand a foot from a Porsche Spyder and watch the driver read his notes before the start. #VintageRacing #Porsche #HusbuddyAuto

Porsche built about 65 of the 906 in 1966. A 2.0-liter flat-six, roughly 210 hp, and a fiberglass body over a tube frame weighing under 1,300 lbs. It won the Targa Florio its first year. Most left the factory white, so this green is a rare sight.

White polo, charcoal trousers, tassel loafers. René Lacoste designed the polo for tennis in the 1920s, and the Mustang fastback arrived for 1965. Sixty years on, both still work without any updating.

Steve McQueen with his Jaguar XKSS. He bought it in 1958 for about $5,000, nicknamed it the Green Rat, and collected enough speeding tickets to nearly lose his license. It now lives at the Petersen Museum in LA.

The 40 in GT40 is the roof height: 40 inches. Ford built it in Slough, England, so this road car has right-hand drive and its gear lever by the door sill. About 31 Mk I road versions were made, softened a little from the Le Mans winners.

The 300 SL Gullwing had those doors because its tube frame ran too high along the sills for normal ones. For the 1957 Roadster, Mercedes redesigned the frame so regular doors would fit. Buyers approved: 1,858 Roadsters sold against 1,400 Gullwings.

Stone Nullah Lane, Hong Kong. The Blue House behind this 911 dates to the 1920s and reportedly got its color in the 1990s because blue was the only paint the government had on hand. The car looks like a 1970s 930 Turbo, but it's a Singer rebuild of a 964.

Cars of Palm Springs. A pink '59 Cadillac convertible, a red Thunderbird, a Nash Metropolitan parked on the lawn, and a Pontiac GTO in the driveway. Everyone sits in front of a midcentury house with palms and mountains behind it.

Three classics shot from above: a green Porsche 911 Targa, a yellow Dino 246 GTS with the roof panel off, and a dark Jaguar E-Type on wire wheels. Germany, Italy, and England parked side by side. I'd take the Dino for the color alone.

A red early 911 in Marlboro livery, number 71 on the door, white ducktail, Fuchs wheels, with sunlight coming through the windows. Tobacco sponsorship has been gone from racing for years, and the cars still look this good.

Two backdated 911s, one pale blue and one cream, parked under a rusting awning against a black brick wall. The rougher the building, the better the paint looks. I'd take the blue one.
