#FantasyIndiesOctober 7:

I've done 3rd person limited POV for one story and present tense for another, but I'm most comfortable with 1st person and past tense.

I like the immediacy of 1st person, being stuck in the character's head, and delving into their unreliability as narrator.

#FantasyIndiesOctober Day 7:

POV & tense!
So far, all my published books are first-person & from Elysia’s POV. You only ever get to see things from her viewpoint. She’s your guide & you will get inside her head too.

I prefer to change tenses, operating between past & present.

There are always a lot of villains in The (Second) Life of Brian, but in book 3, the party finds out who is behind the kidnapping & attempted spiritual corruption of the grand duke's daughter and heir. So we'll give that individual the nod for today's answer.

#FantasyIndiesOctober 5: What would your MC wear to a Halloween party?

Some kind of costume that included stilts. Not because he knows how to use them, but because he'd like to be taller than SOMEBODY for once.

Plus, nobody would ever guess it was him.

04: How does your MC define bravery?

Lina would describe it as the ability to ignore your fear, just tune it out and do what needs to be done.

#FantasyIndiesOctober 3: Saturday Snippet

Lars, Called of Annica Steady-Hands, stood at the entrance to the Temple and prepared, for the first time in decades, to step off the grounds and back into the wider world. He stood unnoticed among the travelers and visitors and monks, earing not the priestly garments he had made so many years ago, but a simple tunic and trews designed to blend in among the people of the city.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward, and was more surprised than he should have been when his feet moved smoothly, nothing barred his way, and his goddess remained a steady presence in his thoughts. Hiding his surge of triumph, he stepped briskly through the crowd, eyeing his surroundings as eagerly as any tourist.
The city had changed in his long absence, but not so much to be unrecognizable. Long forgotten habit turned his feet to a section of the city populated primarily by craftsman and their families. He soon found himself in the courtyard of a small temple surrounded by crafthouses. Once-familiar smells and sounds filled the street and he allowed himself to rest among them, taking a seat on one of the benches in the otherwise empty courtyard.

Free Friday: I was at Tulsa vs. North Texas last night. First game I’ve ever attended, and I couldn’t have chosen a better one!

Back and forth the whole time, and our seats were excellent. Here’s our look at the TU touchdown that sent it to overtime:

#FantasyIndiesOctober 2:

I don't watch a ton of spooky movies or shows, because my angel-wife doesn't like them.

On the book side of things, I lean more towards horror comedy, and there, I'd recommend the works of both @rickgualtieri.com and my friend @dmguay.bsky.social!

02: Spooky book recs

Go read Pale! It's a webserial by Wildbow, and it's full of horror elements. Perhaps a bit *too* spooky at times. I love it so much

I'm Jess Mahler. I'm queer, neurospicy, and a brand new cat-mom. I generally write queer SFF.

My currently untitled WIP starts with a villian protagonist on a quest to save the goddes. I'm at 48k words and hope to finish in the next week or two.

Hey everyone, I'm Chris Tullbane. I drink whisky and have 13+ books in the SF/Fantasy genres.

My WIP is Breaker of Bonds, book three in my epic-fantasy-meets-LitRPG series, The (Second) Life of Brian.

I'm 40k words in, with 150-160k to go. I've got to get a move on!

#FantasyIndiesOctober day 1: Introduce yourself and WIP

I'm Faust, author of primarily fantasy horror stories, and this month I'll mostly be talking about my soon-to-release novella, The Town that Banished Death!
My previous two novels were also Halloween-adjacent releases 🧐
