A few feet away from a busy village road, a #WeeBee carries on with its task, extracting nectar from the heart of a Cosmos flower, growing in my garden border, next to the pavement.

A Common Carder Bee, fuzzy yellow and white body arched and black legs gripping it in place, sits on the yellow centre of a white, pink-edged Cosmos flower. A car comes around the corner of the road to the right, only a few feet away, beside a narrow pavement that leads to the local pub and then the village green. The plant sways as the vehicle rushes past but the bee, with large eyes focused on the nectar-rich bloom and thin tongue slipped down into the heart of the flower, is oblivious, focusing on its work as Autumn advances.

Basil, my neighbour's beloved horse, grazes in the evening gloaming beneath a huge Oak that stands in the meadow within sight of our houses. Generations of horses have stood in the same spot.
