Everyone has different needs. Small changes like presenting content in alternative formats can make a huge difference to your visitors and help you to retain custom.

A quote from HeX Productions Creative Director, James Hall, says "With being dyslexic, I would like to see more alternative formats being presented on websites. That would be a big win in enhancing the user experience. I would always rather watch a video or listen to audio to help me digest and interact with a site’s content."

For many #dyslexic people, being faced with a wall of text is enough to make them close a website or document.

Using clear and consistent layouts enhances the readability for everyone.

For Dyslexia Awareness Week, two examples display a document which is a wall of text, compared to one that is clearly spaced out with headings, bullet points, imagery, and icons to make the content more readable and engaging. Above a question asks which one you would rather read? Pointing out formatting matters.

“Reading to a little person is just the highlight of your day.”

For Stephie Bradshaw this was the motivation that helped her overcome self-doubt and the negative voices from her past and reach out for support with reading.

Although there's a range of assistive tech available to help #dyslexic users better consume content or complete information, many websites don't support this game changing technology.

Take a free test to see if your site works with this software to better assist your users: zurl.co/uW2aN

Choosing the wrong font on a site can prevent people from consuming your content.

There are many typefaces available that are designed to be accessible, which can assist #dyslexic people online.

Here's how to ensure your typography is inclusive: zurl.co/nab7A

A browser is displaying user-friendly typefaces for dyslexic people with reason for the choices. These are: Lexend because of its distinct letter shapes, specifically-designed to reduce confusion between similar letters. OpenDyslexic because it has weighted bottoms which grounds text to prevent letters flipping or jumbling. Arial because simple Serifs fonts reduces visual stress and improves readability. Verdana due to it giving ample spacing, which provides wide letter spacing to create clear differentiation and avoid overcrowding. Do not use fancy fonts, serif typefaces, imposter characters, unicase or all-caps.

A tablet device is displaying do’s and don’ts for designing for users with dyslexia. Do keep content short, clear and simple, provide alternative formats to support information, left align text and keep a consistent layout, and let users change the contrast. Don’t use large blocks of heavy text, underline words, use italics, or write in capitals, or force users to remember things, give prompts, and don’t restrict users from using assistive tech.

It’s Dyslexia Awareness Week!

Dyslexic individuals often bring creativity, problem-solving and fresh perspectives to the workplace, exactly the kind of thinking we need in a fast-changing world.

Let's do what we can to support them.

#Dyslexia is often associated with school, however, it can affect many parts of working life. That's what this year's #DAW26 theme aims to tackle, encouraging workplaces to build an understanding and remove barriers.

Here's how you can start bringing accessibility into the workplace: zurl.co/sjl6T
